The Line: Ottawa Senators -136 / Carolina Hurricanes +124 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds

The Senators look to keep their faint playoff hopes alive on Monday night as they host the Carolina Hurricanes at the Canadian Tire Centre.

The Hurricanes play out the string of another disappointing campaign with imminent changes on the horizon as it is believed that both head coach Kirk Muller and general manager Jim Rutherford will be gone at season’s end. Carolina was projected to be a team on the rise over the last couple of years after they acquired Jordan Staal from the Pittsburgh Penguins and Alex Semin from the Washington Capitals but unfortunately for hockey fans in Raleigh, the potential was never met and the Canes will be missing out on the playoffs once again. While a lot of the team’s futility stems from the inability of goaltender Cam Ward to stay healthy the team could very well be parting with him as well as the former Conn Smythe winner seems expendable at the moment as former Bruins backup Anton Khudobin has stolen the number one gig and is the favourite to secure the job heading into next season. With that being said it looks like Ward will get the call here against the Senators who will battle Craig Anderson at the other end.

The Senators have been playing very well in their last few games but it looks like it’ll be a case of too little too late for the Sens who sit six points out of the playoffs and have just eight games remaining on their schedule. Ottawa has underachieved a bit this season based on expectations coming in but to be honest this is probably where they should be considering their roster and I don’t think too many others had Ottawa as a serious playoff threat this season anyways. They have played very well of late mind you and could very well shock the world but would likely need to run the table and get a ton of help in order to sneak in to the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. That doesn’t mean they will be throwing in the towel and after huge wins against Chicago and Calgary I think Ottawa does it again here tonight against a sloppy Hurricanes team and getting a decent price gives us more reason to jump on the home side here.
