Joe Louis Arena and the Detroit Red Wings play host to the white hot Boston Bruins on Wednesday night.
Philadelphia has given Boston a hard time in the past and did so once again but a hard time and winning are two different things as the Bruins prevailed 4-3 in a shootout. The Flyers trailed 3-2 when Vincent LeCavalier scored with 24 seconds remaining but Reilly Smith won it in the SO for the Bruins team record 9th consecutive road win. A red hot Patrice Bergeron tallied for the 7th straight contest with Zdeno Chara and ex Flyer Andrej Meszaros also finding the back of the net to make Tuukka Rask and his 49 stops a winning effort. LeCavalier also scored in the first with Kimmo Timonen also lighting the lamp but Steve Mason's 27 saves wasn't enough.

Detroit came up big in the clutch with a 3-2 decision over visiting Tampa Bay on Sunday to move two points ahead of Columbus for the first Wild Card. The Red Wings received goals from David Legwand, Gustav Nyquist and Joakim Andersson with the win going to Jonas Gustavsson who recorded 26 saves to give Detroit back to back victories. The Lightning saw a modest two game winning streak end with goals coming from Valtteri Filppula and Sami Salo who scored with 4 1/2 minutes left in the third to make things interesting. The defeat went to Ben Bishop who recorded 27 stops.
Boston is 1-6 in the last seven meetings while the under has gone 10-4-1 in the last 15 overall. The Red Wings seem to match up well with the Bruins but I've heard that before. I'll look in to this while waiting for goalies...
