The Washington Capitals make the trip up the interstate to take on the New Jersey Devils on Friday.
Washington could have moved a step closer to the playoffs with a win over visiting Dallas on Tuesday but instead it was the Stars who inched closer with a 5-0 victory. The visitors received a pair of tallies from Dustin Jeffrey with Ray Whitney, Tyler Seguin and Ryan Garbutt also netting goals. Kari Lehtonen was strong between the pipes with 35 saves to record shutout number four as Dallas tied the Coyotes for the second Wild Card with wins in four of five. Jaroslav Halak gave up three goals on 23 shots before getting the hook in favor of Braden Holtby who allowed two scores on 13 shots as the Caps dropped their fourth straight.

Wherever the Devils end up, be it the postseason or home for the playoffs which is likely they can blame their awful shootout record which dropped to 0-11 on the season after a 3-2 SO defeat at lowly Buffalo on Tuesday. Ville Leino won it in the 9th round with a wrist shot that eluded Cory Schneider while Tyler Ennis posted a pair of third perod goals. Nathan Lieuwen made 33 saves to pick up his first career win which also ended the Sabres four game slide. Dainius Zubrus and Tuomo Ruutu provided the New Jersey offense with Schneider posting 25 stops in the loss as the Devils are three points behind in the race for the second Wild Card.
Washington is 2-7 in their last nine meetings and 5-15 in their past 20 trips to New Jersey while the under has gone 5-1 in the last six in NJ. I'm not liking either team at the moment and seeing the goalies might not change that...
