The Dallas Stars hope to inch their way closer to a playoff berth Sunday afternoon when they take on the Florida Panthers. This is the second meeting between these two teams, as the Panthers won 4-2 back in October.
The Stars have won six of their last eight games and are fighting for one of the last playoff spots in the Western Conference. The Stars have relied heavily on their offense during this stretch to win games, as they’ve scored four or more goals in four of their last five games. Goalie Kari Lehtonen has also done a solid job, allowing two or less goals in five of his last eight games. The Dallas Stars are 17-18-3-1 on the road this season.

The Florida Panthers have lost five straight and eight of their last nine games. Like much of their season, the lack of offense has killed the Panthers, as they’ve scored two or less goals in seven of their last nine games. Even with goalie Roberto Luongo allowing two or fewer goals in five of his last six starts, the Panthers aren’t going to win much when the offense can’t put the puck in the net. However, Brad Boyes has scored four goals in his last six games. The Florida Panthers are 14-18-1-4 at home.
The Stars are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. a team with a losing record and 6-13 in their last 19 vs. Eastern Conference. The Panthers are 1-4 in their last 5 home games and 15-37 in their last 52 vs. Western Conference. The Stars are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings, while the road team is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings.
The Dallas Stars absolutely need this game, while the Panthers are already worried about next season. I like the more desperate and overall better team at the cheap price.
Give me the Stars.
