A big late comeback ran out of steam as Detroit dropped a 5-3 decision at Montreal on Saturday. The Red Wings scored three third period goals to erase a 3-0 Habs lead before the Canadiens regrouped to avoid the huge meltdown. Brian Gionta paced the Montreal attack with two scores with Michael Bounival, Max Pacioetty and Alex Galchenyuk also lighting the lamp while Carey Price stopped 24 shots to give his team wins in seven of eight and a four point lead for second in the Atlantic over Tampa Bay. Detroit received goals from Pavel Datsyuk, Luke Glendening and Niklas Kronwall with Jonas Gustavsson posted 21 saves as the Wings winning streak ended at four.

Buffalo traveled to the City of Brotherly Love and found a Philadelphia squad that was frustrated and angry over their own poor play and came away with a 5-2 defeat on Sunday. Brayden Schenn led the Flyers with a pair of tallies with Vincent LeCavalier, Matt Read and Zac Rinaldo also scoring to make a winner of Steve Mason and his 17 saves. In the process Philly stayed ahead of Columbus by two points for the 2nd Wild Card and moved to within two points of the Rangers for second in the Metropolitan. Mike Weber and Cody Hodgson scored for the Sabres with Nathan Lieuwen stopped 32 for defeat number three in a row.
