The Colorado Avalanche host game five with the Minnesota Wild at the Pepsi Center Saturday.
Great defense and a few goals was the winning formula in Minnesota's 2-1 home win over Colorado that evened their series at two games apiece. The Wild were suffocating on defense and seldom allowed the rubber to even reach the net while also holding the visitors to an 0-4 night on the power play. The Avs now head home looking to maintain home ice advantage when they held a 2-0 series edge and had visions of closing out the series early.

Charlie Coyle and Jared Spurgeon provided Minnesota with all the offense they would need while Darcy Kuemper brushed aside eleven shots to pick up the win and likely earn him another start in game five. Kuemper recorded 22 saves in a game three shutout that might keep number one netminder Ilya Bryzgalov on the bench after he was torched for eight goals on 45 shots in under five periods in the first two games. Ryan O'Reilly tallied for the Avs in the second with Semyon Varlamov posting 30 stops.
Colorado looked great in taking a 2-0 series lead but Minnesota has shown a lot of poise and totally shutdown the Avs offense. The question is whether the momentum of playing at the Pepsi Center will provide the necessary spark or does Kuemper have another stellar performance. I'll look at this in depth while I wait for a line so please check back...
