The Rangers look to regroup and even the series on Wednesday night as game four goes at Madison Square Garden against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Pittsburgh Penguins reclaimed home ice advantage with a gutsy effort in New York on Monday as they blanked the Rangers for the second straight game and skated away as 2-0 victors. The Pens have been highly scrutinized for their lack of killer instinct so far in these playoffs and Marc-Andre FLeury has been the scapegoat for his team’s downfalls over the last couple of years but he has certainly answered the bell of late as he has recorded back to back shutouts. Sidney Crosby finally got the monkey off his back and scored his first goal of the playoffs on a partial breakaway that went between the legs of Henrik Lundqvist and now that the weight is off his shoulders perhaps we will see a more confident and loose Penguins captain. The Pens will look to take a stranglehold with a victory here at MSG and head back home with an opportunity to wrap things up but they know that the Rangers face a must win type game here and can’t afford to go back to the Consol Energy Center facing elimination.

The Rangers outlasted the Flyers in the opening round thanks to a spectacular game seven effort from Lundqvist and while he has played very well once again in this series he hasn’t had the goal support from his teammates. The Blue Shirts took the series opener in overtime but haven’t scored a goal since and will be playing some desperate hockey on Wednesday as they can ill afford another home loss as Pittsburgh is a very tough place to play for visitors and if the Pens have a shot at wrapping the series up back home you can bet they’ll be playing so extra motivation. This shapes up to be another interesting game as the story has been the play of the goaltenders in this series despite the talent level of their respective offenses and now that Crosby has broken the goose egg the pressure now falls on New York’s Rick Nash who also has well publicized struggles in the postseason. I like the Pens to win this series but think the Rangers can scrape by with another win. However, I like the total better as I see another low scoring affair as Fleury and Lundqvist duke it out to see who can snatch victory for their team.
