The Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks will square off Friday night for a game seven of the second round of the NHL playoffs.
The Kings avoided elimination in game six, winning 2-1, and snapping a three-game losing streak in the playoffs. Goalie Jonathan Quick has been really inconsistent at times, as he’s given up three or more goals in two of his last four games. The Kings offense also hasn’t been nearly as explosive as it was in the series against the San Jose Sharks. Marian Gaborik has led the way for the Kings in this series, racking up five goals and three assists. The Kings are 4-6 in the playoffs when being held to three or less goals. The Los Angeles Kings are also 27-17-0-4 on the road this season.
USA TODAY Sports
John Gibson has started the last three games for the Ducks and has allowed just five combined goals in those starts. The Ducks are 6-4 throughout the playoffs when holding their opponent to three or less goals. Ryan Getzlaf has racked up one goal and six assists in this series, Devante Smith-Pelly has scored three goals in as many games. The Ducks have also taken advantage of the power play in this series, scoring at least one power play goal in four of their last five games. The Anaheim Ducks are 33-9-2-3 on their home ice this season.
The Kings are 17-5 in their last 22 games following a win and 0-6 in their last 6 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game. The Ducks are 51-23 in their last 74 home games and 35-16 in their last 51 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. The road team is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
This game is as close to a coin flip as you can get, as you can't be sure which team is actually going to show up. And while the road team has had luck these playoffs in winning game sevens, the Ducks have been terrific all year on their home ice. I'll take the Ducks to protect home ice and get the job done for the cheap price.
After all, it's not often you get low juice with the home team in a game seven.
