The Canadiens look to get back in the series with a win in New York on Thursday night while the Blue Shirts look to take a commanding 3-0 series lead.

The Montreal Canadiens face a stiff task after dropping both games on home ice to open their series with the New York Rangers and while a lot of the blame is being placed on the absence of all star goaltender Carey Price the bottom line remains that the Habs just haven’t played very well. The Habs were considered the favourites heading into this series after fending off the Cup favourites from Boston in an epic seven game set but now that Price has gone down and will be out for the remainder of the series combined with the fact that the Rangers took the first two games it is redundant to say now that the tables have turned. The Canadiens need to respond in a big way tonight or else they will face an insurmountable task of trying to win four straight games against Henrik Lundqvist and the stingy New York blue line. PK Subban has come out and stated that King Henrik has been lucky to play the way he has which should make him public enemy number one in New York which we probably could have assumed without those statements as he usually draws the ire of the opponent’s crowd.

New York Rangers vs. Montreal Canadiens - 5/22/14

The Rangers have a very solid shot at pushing the Canadiens to the brink of elimination with their third win in as many tries and this time they get the luxury of playing in front of the home fans at MSG. New York has gone the distance with both the Flyers and Penguins in the first two rounds of these playoffs and the play of Henrik Lundqvist has been instrumental in New York’s success in both deciding game sevens but this series has been a different story as the Blue Shirts hold a 2-0 lead. New York has received an inspirational effort from Martin St. Louis whose rollercoaster of a season took a tragic turn for the worse after his mother died unexpectedly but he and his teammates have rallied around the unfortunate circumstances and look like a team on a mission at the moment. New York’s forte all season has been their play on the road as they were one of the best in the league in that regard but their play at home was mediocre for a playoff contender and while they hold a huge edge here between the pipes I see a rebound effort from Dustin Tokarski as he is now on the road and I like Subban to step up and get his team back in the series as he always seems to play well through adversity.
