It won’t be too much longer now before we can determine who will be representing each conference in the 2014 NHL Stanley Cup Finals, as we’ve gotten through a lot of hockey already. Before we get set for tonight’s matchup, let’s take a look at some of the notable players and situations happening around the league.

Patrick Kane, RW, Chicago Blackhawks: Few people expected the Blackhawks to lose last night, and they followed through on that expectation with a must-have victory in Game 5 against the Kings in the Western Conference Finals. The Kings, however, certainly made things interesting.
It took two overtimes for the Blackhawks to notch the victory 5-4, with the game ending on a Michael Handzus backhand. Assisting on that one--and three other goals in the game--was Patrick Kane. Brandon Saad also notched a key performance with a goal and two helpers of his own.
The Kings were up 4-3 heading into the third, but a Ben Smith goal early in that frame tied things up.
L.A. is still in a good position. They’re up 3-2, with Game 6 coming tomorrow night at Staples Center. The Kings need to get out to a fast start and assert themselves early in that one.
