The Western Conference champion will be crowned in Chicago on Sunday night and will be rewarded with a date in the Stanley Cup Finals with the awaiting New York Rangers.
The LA Kings had the Chicago Blackhawks on the ropes earlier in the week with a commanding 3-1 series lead but have since dropped back to back games and now have to find a way to win at the United Center which has been very tough for opponent’s in these playoffs. The Kings looked like shoe ins to not only knock off the defending Cup champs but were considered the team to beat heading into the Cup finals but Chicago are the defending champs for a reason and now we have a deciding game seven between two of the league’s best teams. Los Angeles has been very competitive in the last two games, both of which were in a losing effort, as they forced overtime in game five before a Michal Handzus goal ended things and were in control late in the third period of game six before the wheels fell off and ultimately resulted in another loss. Now, the Kings must stay composed and pull off an unprecedented third game seven road win of these playoffs but if there is a team that can do it it is the Kings.

The Blackhawks looked dead in the water after falling behind 3-1 in the series but have since escaped with back to back victories setting up tonight’s pivotal game seven that will decide the Western Conference champion. Chicago is loaded at both ends of the rink but they know their counterparts are just as deep if not more so but it all comes down to one game with everything that has happened thus far thrown out the window. The Hawks have done enough in each of the last two games to stave off elimination but they haven’t necessarily outplayed the Kings for a full 60 minutes and to be honest I think the Hawks are lucky to even be in this position after the way they played through four games to start the series. This is going to be an incredible game to watch between the two best teams in my opinion remaining in these playoffs and two of the bets in the game altogether and while the Hawks have all the momentum after taking the last two games I don’t think you can use that as a stepping stone for a huge game seven. As mentioned, the Kings have already won two game sevens on the road this year as they knocked off the Sharks in San Jose and followed that up with a win in Anaheim against the Ducks and now they’ll have to do it once more against the Hawks. I predicted the Blackhawks to make it out of the West at the start of the postseason and with Patrick Kane turning his game up I think that will make the difference in accordance with Chicago’s elevated play on the blue line.
