NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Canucks, NHL Finals TV Schedule and More
June 6, 2014
We’ve got one more day to wait for Game 2 of the 2014 NHL Stanley Cup Finals, and the anticipation is nothing short of agonizing. While we’re waiting, let’s take our daily stroll around the league and check out some of the notable players and situations out there. Here’s a snapshot of the latest headlines.
The Kings by the Numbers: Now that the dust has settled after Game 1 of the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals, we can analyze some of the notable trends that Kings win brought to light.
Game 1 was a historic victory for Los Angeles, as they are now the 14th team to mount a comeback from a multiple-goal deficit and take the victory during these playoffs, which is the most in a single postseason in NHL history. (The Kings themselves have done it four times during this playoff run.)
With the win, they bucked a bit of a trend so far. The home team is just 10-14 in 24 overtime games during these playoffs. Since 1990, the home team has won just seven of the 27 overtime games in the Stanley Cup Final.
2014 marks the third straight year that Game 1 of the Final has gone into overtime. The Kings themselves did it in 2012 and the recently ousted Blackhawks did it in 2013 (which was actually triple-overtime).
Regardless, it seems no lead is safe in these Stanley Cup Playoffs, so we’re in for a lot of drama out there on the ice.

Alexander Edler, D, Vancouver Canucks: We’ve got a bit of information regarding Edler’s potential future in Vancouver today. Word is that the Canucks are not likely to ask him to waive the no-trade clause in his contract, which comes as a moderate surprise.
Edler had a pretty bad season in 2013-14. He finished with a minus-39 rating, good enough for dead last in the league. That said, it looks like the Canucks still believe in him and think he has all the goods to be a big-time player in the NHL. Whether or not he can get his mojo back for the 2014-15 season remains to be seen.
