The Line: New York Rangers / Los Angeles Kings --- Over/Under: 5 See the Latest Odds
The Los Angeles Kings take a 2-0 series lead with them to MSG to face the New York Rangers in game three.
The Kings outlasted new York 5-4 in double overtime on Saturday to sweep the first two games at the Staples Center. The series now shifts to Madison Square Garden for game number three in what looks like a must win for the New Yorkers. Just like in the opener the Rangers jumped to a 2-0 first period lead and also led 3-1 and 4-2 but the Kings once again rebounded from adversity.
USA TODAY Sports
The Rangers received goals from Ryan McDonagh, Martin St. Louis, Derrick Brassard and Mats Zuccarello while Henrik Lundqvist once again saw plenty of rubber with 39 saves in absorbing the loss. Dustin Brown was Mr. Clutch when he deflected Willie Michell's blast past Lundqvist at the 10:26 mark of the second extra session to send the home crowd in to a frenzy. Mitchell also scored with Jarret Stoll, Marian Gaborik and Dwight King also lighting the lamp while Justin Williams logged three helpers. Jonathan Quick recorded 34 stops to get the win.
The Kings flare for the dramatic continues as they rally from a two goal deficit in the opener to win in OT and top that with comebacks from a trio of two goal holes to win game two in overtime. The LAK have been doing this in every series in the postseason and logic says the law of averages will catch up to them and they will go to the well once too often and it will cost them although it has happened so often I have thrown logic out the window.
Heading in to game three the Rangers have to take solace in knowing they were one play away from owning the 2-0 series lead but they have to be thinking what does it take to put Los Angeles away. Obviously the Kings don't want to fall behind once again while the Blue Shirts want to get a lead and hold it while easing the work load on Lundqvist. No line out but I'll post a pick a few hours before game time but if the line is big I'll be looking at the Kings...
