The Los Angeles Kings get their second shot at claiming the Stanley Cup when the New York Rangers take the ice in game five.
The Rangers sent the Stanley Cup finals to game five with a 2-1 decision over the Kings at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday. The series shifts back to the Staples Center for game five Friday with Los Angeles holding a 3-1 series lead. In what was a continuing theme New York took a 2-0 lead but the added twist; they finally held on to the advantage.

The New Yorkers received an opening period tally from Benoit Pouliot and doubled it early in the second frame on a Martin St Louis score. A 2-0 lead is nothing new for the Blue Shirts and the fans and team were undoubtably aware of what has happened when ahead by two goals. I'm sure there was a lump in the stomach of anyone involved with New York when the visitors cut the deficit to 2-1 when Dustin Brown lit the lamp but that was all she wrote for the highest scoring team in the postseason with Henrik Lundqvist brushing aside 40 shots. Jonathan Quick recorded 17 stops in the defeat.
The good news for the Kings was they played the better hockey as they put plenty of rubber on Lundqvist but he simply made the saves and that's how it goes in this game. Los Angeles also turned up their defense a few notches with the Rangers recording just a single shot in the third while they sent 15 shots at the New York net. The bottom line is this might have been one the Blue Shirts managed to steal and who knows if this becomes a series shifting win. Having said that, Los Angeles did everything but get the puck past Lundqvist and I'm hoping they get a few by him on Friday...
