TV:

We’ve reached the weekend, and it’s been a pretty busy past few days for NHL transactions. We’ll probably be seeing more of that in the near future, so with that in mind let’s check out some of the notable headlines and stories out there.

Jonas Hiller, G, Calgary Flames: Good news for Hiller and the Flames. The team expects their net-minder to experience a speedy recovery after getting hit with an appendicitis attack this past week. Hiller had minor surgery and is recovering.
The expectation is that he’ll be back to normal by sometime next week, so this won’t hurt much in his off-season plans.
On July 1, Hiller inked a two-year deal with Calgary worth a reported $9 million.

Ferraro Deal: The Red Wings were active yesterday, inking C Landon Ferraro to a one-year, two-way deal. He’ll probably spend most of his time in AHL Grand Rapids this year, but could make an appearance at the NHL level in the case of injury. He played four games in Detroit last season.

Reimer Deal: Here’s a pretty big one from yesterday’s activities. The Leafs inked net-minder James Reimer to a two-year, $4.6 million deal yesterday, according to reports.
Reimer is coming off a pretty shaky year in 2013-14, logging a 12-16-1 record and a GAA of 3.29. If he can get back to his 2012 self (19-8-5 record; 2.46 GAA), Toronto will have a potent one-two punch in net this season.

Bellemore Deal: One more minor transaction from yesterday’s moves: The Hurricanes inked defenseman Brett Bellemore to a one-year, two-way deal.
Bellemore is coming off a 64-game season in the NHL during 2013-14, which was his first time at that level for an entire campaign. We should see him improve on his 10-point output from last season.

NHL Daily Schedule: The league action will be picking back up again on Wednesday, October 8. Let’s check out the schedule for that evening and see what we can expect on opening night.
