It’s finally here. We’ll be seeing the official start of NHL training camps today on teams across the league, and that means we’re getting tantalizingly close to the 2014-15 season. With that in mind, let’s take our daily look around the league and see who’s making waves out there on the ice.

Earlier this week, defenseman Danny DeKeyser inked a new deal with the Red Wings. The contract is worth $4.38 million over two years and brings a tense standoff to an end. He posted 23 points in his 65 games last year.

Speaking of the Red Wings, winger Daniel Alfredsson has been visiting with back specialists and is not attending training camp, according to reports. With that in mind, it’s a strong possibility he’s played his last season in the NHL.

After undergoing tests this week, Devils winger Ryane Clowe looks good to go for training camp. Everything is supposedly on track in his recovery from a concussion and should be good to go for the opener.

Derrick Pouliot probably won’t be ready for training camp, according to Pens coach Mike Johnston. Pouliot is coming off a shoulder injury and hasn’t been cleared for contact just yet. He’ll be doing some skating, though.

In other Penguins news, defenseman Kris Letang should be just fine for camp and the beginning of the season as well. He suffered a stroke around eight months ago, but was able to work out through the summer with no setbacks or complications.
Letang also had issues with his knee and elbow last season, so he’s definitely a health concern as the Pens get started. That said, if he truly is back to 100 percent, he’s an offensive force that brings a different dimension to the Pittsburgh attack.

NHL Daily Schedule: The league action will be picking back up again on Wednesday, October 8. Let’s check out the schedule for that evening and see what we can expect on opening.
