The Blackhawks head into Dallas on Thursday night in what should be one of the best games on the schedule.
The Chicago Blackhawks were a goal away from advancing to their second straight Cup finals appearance and they had the raucous United Center crowd on their side but ultimately their season came to an end thanks to the LA Kings. While the loss is still very fresh in the minds of Hawks players they have a ton to look forward to this season as they signed their two centerpieces in Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews to massive contract extensions. The Hawks also brought in veteran forward Brad Richards who will look to jump start his career after he fell out of favour in New York and in Chicago where the market is just as strong if not more so than in New York and with the talent around him being what it is I imagine he will make a smooth transition. The Hawks return Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp up front as well which should give Chicago one of the best attacking units in the league once again and with Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook headmanning the back end again this makes for a very dangerous team that will be thirsty for another Cup title.

The preseason sexy pick to make some noise in the Western Conference this season is the Dallas Stars and for a team that was close to pulling off a first round upset last year they have certainly made some strides to get over the hump. The Stars acquired both Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky from the Ottawa Senators immediately upgrading the team’s second line behind Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn and while combinations are still to be determined you’d have to think Valeri Nichushkin and Cody Eakin are the likely beneficiaries of their new teammates. The Stars are a complete team with a ton of firepower and a stable goaltender but their biggest question mark remains on the blue line and while Trevor Daley and Alex Goligoski are solid they need some help beyond them and until someone steps up or they bring someone in it could be their down fall. This is a game I am going to wait on to see the line as I feel like there will be some early money on the Stars as they’re at home and as mentioned have a ton of hype coming in but I am not willing to pass up on a great price on Chicago.
