The Line: Detroit Red Wings / Boston Bruins --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds

The Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings square off Thursday night at the Joe Louis Arena.

This will be a back-to-back game for the Boston Bruins, a team that just beat the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday, 2-1. Goalie Tuukka Rask looks sharper than ever, as he allowed just one goal on 20 shots and held the Flyers scoreless in the first two periods. Torey Krug was super aggressive with five shots on goal and Chris Kelly’s goal late in the third period proved to be the game winner to send the Bruins fans home happy. The Boston Bruins held the Flyers scoreless on three power play opportunities and ended up producing double-digit shots on goal in two of their three periods. The Bruins showed very little signs of rust and are clearly on a mission to once again compete for a Stanley Cup.

Detroit Red Wings vs. Boston Bruins - 10/9/14 NHL Pick, Odds, Prediction

This will be the season opener for the Detroit Red Wings. The Detroit Red Wings look to return to the playoffs for what feels like the 100th straight year and shouldn’t have a problem doing so with the roster they bring back. However, the Red Wings were unable to land a quality defenseman during the offseason, which makes most wonder just how much better Detroit can be than a season ago. The Red Wings are a lot healthier than they were last season and return their top-four point leaders in Daniel Alfredsson, Niklas Kronwall, Henrik Zetterberg and Gustav Nyquist. In order for the Red Wings to seriously be a playoff threat this season, they’ll need to get better production from their younger players in Nyquist and Tomas Tatar. It’s going to be an interesting season for the Detroit Red Wings and a fan base that would like to see a deep run this time around.

The Bruins are 36-16 in their last 52 games playing on 0 days rest and 3-7 in their last 10 road games. The Red Wings are 0-4 in their last 4 vs. Eastern Conference and 107-48-8 in their last 163 games playing on 3 or more days rest. The Bruins are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.

I always pick the home team on opening day when the road team is coming off a physical game. Give me the Detroit Red Wings, regardless of what the line is.
