The Buffalo Sabres look for a road win versus the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center.
The Buffalo Sabres late meltdown resulted in a season opening defeat at the hands of visiting Columbus by a 3-2 count on Thursday night. Despite the letdown in the final frame the bottom line is the Sabres attack never got going with Zemgus Girgensons while the defense struggled to keep the puck off the net. Jhonas Enroth turned away 37 shots in a decent but losing performance. Cam Atkinson, Artem Anisimov and Jack Skille each found the back of the net with a 21 save performance from Sergei Bobrovsky being a winner.

The Chicago Blackhawks survived a tough opening day assignment as they opened 2014 with a 3-2 shootout victory at Dallas. Patrick Kane scored the only goal in the shootout with a backhander that beat Kari Lehtonen high. The duo of Patrick Sharp and Duncan Keith both scored and assisted on each other's goals with Corey Crawford recording 32 stops to pick up the win. The Stars received goals from Cody Eakin and Trevor Daley in the middle frame with Lehtonen making 24 stops in the loss. The Blackhawks were 1-5 on the PP while the Stars were 1-5 with the man advantage.
Buffalo has lost the last five to Chicago and are 0-4 in this match up at the United Center while the home team is 6-2 in the past eight. The trends favor the Blackhawks but the Sabres have played Chicago tough. I'll look deeper while waiting for goalies and will post a pick Saturday afternoon or sooner...
