The Ducks look to get back on track after a tough loss in Pittsburgh to start the season as they head into the Motor City to take on the Red Wings.
The Anaheim Ducks didn’t quite get the start they wanted to the 2014-15 season as they were waxed by the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Consol Energy Center on Thursday night and they’ll turn to Frederik Andersen to get them in the win column against the Wings. The Ducks sent long time starter Jonas Hiller packing in the offseason after deciding they can move forward with youngsters Andersen and John Gibson with the latter taking over the starter’s role in the playoffs last year and doing a great job. However, Gibson struggled against the Pens allowing six goals and will now be in the bench watching his teammate try to take a grasp on the starter’s role with a strong effort at Joe Louis Arena. The Ducks are one of a handful of teams projected to make a deep run in this year’s regular season and playoffs and after acquiring Ryan Kesler from the Canucks those thoughts appear towards turning into a reality if they can sort out their goaltending situation.

The Red Wings have long been a staple of NHL success and while they have seen some of their franchise players come and go over the last few years they continue to reach the postseason and challenge for the Stanley Cup. However, we could see that streak come to an end this season as the Wings are going through a bit of a transition and will be without Pavel Datsyuk for a bit and if the youngsters on the Wings roster can’t compensate and fill the void left by the Russian sniper they could be in trouble. Detroit is always a tough out at the Joe and is a different type of Eastern Conference team after spending so much time in the West playing against some of the games top teams on a nightly basis. Jimmy Howard will have to be sharp here if the Wings want to secure two points and against Frederik Andersen and the Ducks I foresee a lot of battles in the neutral zone and a tight defensive game. I like the under in this spot but I have a very strong play on the side and that will go in the Premium Area.
