Philadelphia Flyers vs. Montreal Canadiens - 10/11/14

Montreal Canadiens (2-0-0) at Philadelphia Flyers (0-2-0)

NHL Hockey: Saturday

The Line: Philadelphia Flyers -105 / Montreal Canadiens -105 --- Over/Under: 5 See the Latest Odds

The Canadiens look to stay perfect as they play their third game of the young season on Saturday against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Montreal Canadiens haven’t been perfect on the ice but they remain unblemished in the win column as they have stolen two victories in as many tries in games against the Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals. The Habs are a season removed from advancing to the Eastern Conference finals in what was a bit of an overachievement but nonetheless they were the second best in the conference a season ago and should be poised to make a similar run this year if they can stay healthy. Carey Price is unquestionably one of the best goalies in the NHL and the team will go as far as he can take them and after a night off against the Caps he returns to the crease to face a Flyers team who also has two games under their belt but they have endured two losses. Montreal has a nice core of players up front that should drive the blue line of the Flyers into fits and if they can get some traffic in front of Steve Mason they should be able to create ample scoring opportunities and take the pressure of off Price and the Montreal back end.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Montreal Canadiens - 10/11/14

The Flyers have been competitive in their two losses but have been dismal in the defensive zone which is exactly what outsiders and skeptics forecasted would be a problem for the Flyers this season. The team is without long time defenseman Kimmo Timonen who had to retire with blood clots and the rest of the unit just hasn’t been able to establish a positive identity and as such they have been the scapegoat for the team’s two losses. Philly is usually a tough team to play at home but they struggled a year ago and missed the playoffs altogether and with the division being a strong one they’ll have to compete against some talented teams in order to regain some credibility and snatch a playoff spot. Steve Mason is slated to start this one as he and Ray Emery battle for starter’s minutes and while he played very well last season he hasn’t been handed the job and will have to earn it. The Flyers have some play makers up front but again their blue line is going to cost them and against a team like Montreal that can run four lines and with Price in net I just don’t see them getting the win here and I like the trends of both teams to continue.
