NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News
We’ve got a pretty busy seven-game set in the NHL tonight, so there’s plenty for us hockey fans to get excited about. While we’re waiting on those pucks to drop, let’s take this downtime to check out some of the notable players out there and see who’s making headlines.
David Krejci, C, Boston Bruins: The Bruins had a three-game losing streak heading into Joe Louis Arena last night, but were able to prevail against the Red Wings. Krejci chipped in a regulation goal and a shootout score to help Boston win 3-2. Reilly Smith posted the other shootout goal for the Bruins.
On the other side, Jimmy Howard made 37 saves on 39 shots in a tough-luck loss. Gustav Nyquist scored on the power play at the 2:56 mark of the third to tie the game at 2-2 and send it into overtime.

Jonas Hiller, G, Calgary Flames: The Flames and Blackhawks both buckled down for a long defensive battle, and Calgary emerged on top eventually.
Despite Chicago’s utter domination for most of the game, Hiller kept his team in it, posting 49 saves on 50 shots in an eventual 2-1 overtime victory. Mikael Backlund sunk the decisive score with just 25 seconds left in overtime.
Conversely, the Flames were only able to generate 18 shots on goal on the other side, but made more of their chances count.
Interestingly enough, it was the first time the Flames have won while allowing 50 or more shots since 2004 in the playoffs.
Mikkel Boedker, LW, Arizona Coyotes: Building off a 19-goal season, Boedker is off to a great start already. He posted a hat trick and an assist in the Coyotes’ 7-4 win over Edmonton last night, which is a good sign that he’s maintaining his hot streak.
Helping out were Martin Erat (goal; assist) and Rob Klinkhammer (goal).
It was a very promising offensive output from a team that could definitely use more scoring. We’ll see if the group can keep things up.
