The Florida Panthers defeated the Buffalo Sabres 1-0 on Friday night to earn their first victory of the season. The respective defenses and goaltenders dominated the action with the lone tally of the contest off the stick of Florida's Sean Bergenheim at the 3:01 mark of the middle frame and goaltender Roberto Luongo made it stand. Luongo made 26 stops to record his first shutout of the year and number 67 of his career as the Panthers improved to 1-3. Luongo was certainly tested especially over the final 20 minutes when he made 14 saves and stood tall when the Sabres had a five on three power play for 46 seconds. Jhonas Enroth was the tough luck loser with a 34 save effort as the Sabres bid for consecutive victories was not to be.
The over is 4-0 in the Panthers last four road games versus a team with a home winning % of less then .400 while the over is 10-1-1 in their last 12 games playing with zero rest. The Panthers are 0-6 in their last six match ups with the Metropolitan Division. The under is 4-0 in Washington's last four home games versus a team with a road winning % of less then .400 and the under is 6-2 in the Capitals last eight contests playing on one day of rest. Head to Head the Panthers are 3-14 in the last 17 meetings in Washington, with the Panthers going 7-20 in the last 27 match ups with the Capitals while the home team is 11-4 in the past 15 meetings. This doesn't look like a good spot for the Panthers who stay on the road for back to back contests at Washington who plays Florida tough. I'm waiting for goalie confirmation and will have a pick no later then Saturday afternoon...
