NHL Hockey: Wednesday

The Line: Pittsburgh Penguins -200 / Philadelphia Flyers +181 --- Over/Under: 6 See the Latest Odds

TV: NBCSN

The Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins play Wednesday night at the CONSOL Energy Center.

The Philadelphia Flyers are coming off a Tuesday loss to the Chicago Blackhawks and fall to 1-3-2 on the season. The Flyers big issue continues to be poor goaltending, as Philly has allowed four or more goals in five straight games. Steve Mason has allowed 18 goals in 147 save attempts and Ray Emery has given up four goals on 43 save attempts. The Philadelphia Flyers have lost 10 of their last 12 regular season games when allowing three or more goals. Offensively, the Flyers have been a solid team that’s scored three or more goals in four of their last five games. Wayne Simmonds leads the Flyers with five goals, Claude Giroux has five assists and Mark Streit also has five assists. This will wrap up a three-game road trip for the Flyers.

Penguins vs. Flyers - 10/22/14 NHL Pick, Odds, Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Penguins haven’t played since Saturday and are 3-1 on the season. The Penguins strength has been its offense, as they’re first in the league with an average of four goals per game. Sidney Crosby and Patric Hornqvist each have four goals, Evgeni Malkin has five assists and Pascal Dupuis has 13 shots on goal. The Pittsburgh Penguins have won eight of their last nine regular season games when scoring three or more goals, and they’ve scored at least one power play goal in each game this season. Defensively, Marc-Andre Fleury has allowed 10 goals on 117 shots faced and the Penguins were a perfect 7-7 in penalty kills in their last game. This will be the third straight home game for the Penguins before they leave for a two-game road trip.

The Flyers are 5-13 in their last 18 vs. a team with a winning record and 1-4 in their last 5 Wednesday games. The Penguins are 9-1 in their last 10 Wednesday games and 75-32 in their last 107 home games. The Flyers are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Pittsburgh.

There's no way I'm paying that juice no matter how well the Penguins are playing. Philadelphia has had success in Pittsburgh and has the offense to hang around with the Penguins. Give me the Flyers simply off of value.
