The Oilers look to win their third straight game on Friday night when they host the Carolina Hurricanes at Rexall Place.

The Hurricanes are an absolute mess. They are th eonly team in the league without a victory yet this season, were drubbed 5-0 in Calgary last night, and are now likely without Ryan Murray who went down with an injury which is devastating for a team already with Jordan Staal. The Canes were projected to finish near the bottom of the standings this season so it comes as no surprise that they are struggling early on but if this continues they are on track to finish with the league's worst record and likely end up with either Jack Eichel or Connor McDavid which would be a blessing in disguise. The Canes need some new faces and while Eric Staal has been great for the organization there are trade rumors surrounding him and if the Canes can get some key pieces in a deal it wouldn't surprise me to see them pull the trigger on a deal for their captain. Meanwhile, the tough season continues in Edmonton against Ben Scrivens and the Oilers.
The Oilers will look to make it three straight wins on home ice on Friday night after huge victories against the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Washington Capitals and now they catch a break with the Hurricanes coming to town. The Oilers have been on the cusp of breaking through for the last few seasons and the hype and expectation is there once again this season but after a slow start the fans were getting antsy once again. However, their mini two game streak and the Canes on tap for tonight the optimism is starting to seep back into Oil Country and as such they find themselves as pretty big favourites against the league doormats. While this could be a huge let down spot for the Oil I think they finally show up abd begin to break through as a playoff contender and winning the games they should be is a huge part of that. Take the home side.
