The Winnipeg Jets head into Long Island on Tuesday night looking to escape the Central division basement with a victory but going up against fourth best team in terms of points this season won't be an easy task. The Jets took a victory against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday night on home ice but they didn't look overly impressive in doing so despite Dustin Byfuglien's best attempt at steam rolling over everyone in hopes of getting his team two points. Winnipeg certainly has some nice young talent to go along with a solid core but somehow they can't seem to piece it together enough to make a postseason push and until they can get some consistent play out of Ondrej Pavelec things might stay that way. The Jets are 1-2 on the road this season while the Islanders are 3-1 at home.
The Islanders look to continue their impressive start to the season by notching their 7th win of the year against the Jets and they'll lean on the league's top offense to do so which has scored 32 goals through their first eight games. New York took plenty of strides forward in the offseason as they brought in some key pieces to add to an already impressive core as guys like Johnny Boychuk and Mikhail Grabovski have done well in their new digs and the likes of Kyle Okposo and John tavares continue to do what they always do. This Isles team is likely to see a bit of regression but they certainly fit the mold of a playoff team and if they can continue their strong play up front they should have more than enough in the tank to keep pace in a wide open Metropolitan division. New York has a ton of speed and finesse which is the complete opposite of how the Jets play which worries me a bit as that should favour Winnipeg and not New York. Then again, the Isles were able to upend the Bruins who play a similar style to the Jets so in that case I am going to side with New York to keep their hot streak going.
