Edmonton Oilers vs. Nashville Predators - 10/29/14 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Nashville Predators head into Wednesday night's game with the Oilers as only one of two teams to only have one regulation loss to their name so far this season as they're 5-1-2 and atop the Central division standings. The Preds underwent an overhaul a couple years ago as they lost one of their best players in Ryan Suter and needed a year to regroup and now after signing James Neal and drafting Seth Jones it looks like the Predators are ready to return to the limelight. The Predators retain their stingy defensive game and have added an offensive element led by the former Stars and Penguins forward but their MVP so far this season has to be Pekka Rinne who is among the league's best in goals against average and has just a single loss so far through eight starts. The Preds will have to be ready to go in this one though as the Oilers have ripped off three straight wins against quality opponents and will be turning to Ben Scrivens who has been brilliant all season for Edmonton.

The Oilers are finally starting to look like the team many expected them to be and while you are always thought of to win games on home ice the oil have won four straight against the Lightning, Capitals, Hurricanes, and Canadiens and are looking for more here tonight. Edmonton has a boast of young talent that is emerging as some of the game's top players but they haven't been able to piece together enough victories to qualify for the postseason and more often than not they end up picking in the top five in the entry draft. Optimism remains high in Edmonton this season and if they can get continued stable goal tending from Scrivens and their blue line can step up and help keep the puck out of the net than I think the Oilers could challenge for a playoff spot and end their ugly drought. With that being said, I think this is a bit of a rough spot for Edmonton as they face one of the best goalies and defensive units in the game and for a team that thrives on filling the net I think they'll have a tough time doing so here and as such I think Nashville gets the victory.
