The Columbus Blue Jackets pay a visit to PNC Arena to take the ice with the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Carolina Hurricanes are trying to right the ship from a slow start to the season as they don't want to fall too far behind the competition and play catch up the whole year. The Hurricanes took a step in that direction with a 4-2 victory at Columbus in the first game of a home and home set with the Jackets. Carolina has now won three in a row as they never trailed in this one with 2-0 and 3-1 leads before Columbus came within 3-2 late before Eric Staal sealed the deal with an empty net tally. Rick Nash and Zach Boychuk scored in the opening frame for the Canes while Justin Faulk found the back of the net in the second period while shorthanded to make a winner of Cam Ward and his 17 stops.

The Columbus Blue Jackets looked like an up and coming team last season so the expectations were high coming in to 2014. However injuries have really taken a huge toll on this team with no less then ten players on the injured reserve list or suspended. The NHL or any sport for that matter is extremely tough and even more so without a full compliment of players and the Blue Jackets are nowhere close to having a full team and it shows in their record. After Tuesday's loss to Carolina the Blue Jackets have dropped six in a row and simply need to hang tough until some bodies return from the IR. That was a non issue in Tuesday's defeat with Nick Foligno scoring twice with Curtis McElhinney recording 33 stops in absorbing the loss.
The Blue Jackets are 0-6 in their last 6 overall and the under is 4-0 in Blue Jackets last 4 Friday games while the Blue Jackets are 0-5 in their last 5 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game. For Carolina the Hurricanes are 0-6 in their last 6 in the second game of a home-and-home situation with the under going 4-0 in Hurricanes last 4 in the second game of a home-and-home situation while the Hurricanes are 0-4 in their last 4 games playing on 2 days rest. Head to head the Blue Jackets are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Carolina and the under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings while the Blue Jackets are 8-3 in the last 11 meetings. I don't know if the trends have much meaning given all the injuries Columbus has but I'll look in to this when a line and goalies are released so please check back Friday afternoon...
