TV: ROOT, MSG, SNO

The Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers square off Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are one of the hottest teams in the league right now with seven straight wins. The Penguins offense continues to put up numbers, as they’re first in the league with an average of 4.2 goals per game and they’ve won eight of their last 10 games when scoring three or more goals. A lot of this success comes on the power play, as the Penguins have scored at least once in six of their last seven games with the advantage. Patric Hornqvist leads Pittsburgh with nine goals, Sidney Crosby has 17 assists and Kris Letang has 41 shots on goal. Defensively, Marc-Andre Fleury has allowed 21 goals on 305 shots and Thomas Greiss has given up five goals on 65 shots. The Pittsburgh Penguins haven’t allowed a power play goal in 10 straight games.

Rangers vs. Penguins - 11/11/14 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The New York Rangers have lost four of their last five games and a lot of the issues continue to be defensively. The Rangers are allowing 3.1 goals per game on the season and have allowed eight goals in their last two games. About the only good news defensively is that the Rangers haven’t allowed a power play goal in four of their last seven games. Overall, however, Cam Talbot has allowed 12 goals on 100 shots and Henrik Lundqvist has allowed 30 goals on 315 shots faced. The Rangers have lost seven of their last 10 games when allowing at least three goals. Offensively, Rick Nash leads the Rangers with 11 goals, Martin St. Louis has seven assists and Carl Hagelin has 32 shots on goal. The Rangers have scored just five power play goals all season long, and three of them have come in their last four games.

The Penguins are 38-15 in their last 53 games playing on 2 days rest and 4-0 in their last 4 road games. The Rangers are 4-1 in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest and 5-2 in their last 7 vs. Metropolitan. The Penguins are 12-5 in the last 17 meetings in New York, while the road team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.

The Penguins have to lose eventually, right? The Rangers have really been stinking up the joint lately but they're capable of playing better and you have to think that would start in a big game at home. I see value in backing the Rangers and the plus money.
