Edmonton Oilers vs. New Jersey Devils - 11/21/14 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The New Jersey Devils head into Edmonton on Friday night as they embark on their Western Canada road trip and they'll be looking to end their two game losing streak and pull back to the .500 mark with a victory. The Devils have had an up and down season thus far as they started off very hot out of the gates but have since cooled off and are in the middle of the pack in the Eastern Conference but perhaps a trip to Edmonton is exactly what the Devils need to get back on track. New Jersey heads to Calgary on Saturday and will take on the Canucks later in the week in what will be Corey Schneider's return to Vancouver and to me that is where the focus of this team will be and if not the matchup against the Canucks than on the Flames who have been surprising everyone with their strong play. Schneider is confirmed for tonight's game as he will likely go up against Ben Scrivens in what should be a pretty close contest between two evenly matched sides.

The Oilers appeared to be making strides earlier this season as they erased an ugly start to the season but a 2-7-1 mark in their last 10 has them right back in the basement in the Western Conference. The Oilers certainly have the makeup of a playoff team or at least one that should challenge for a spot but they haven't been able to do so since they lost in the Cup Finals back in 2006 and in fact they haven't even been close and way more than they'd like to remember they have finished at or near the bottom of the standings. The Oilers do match up pretty well against the Devils but I am afraid they will have the Blackhawks on their mind for a Saturday night show down and a guy like Jaromir Jagr always seems to find his way against the Oil and that's what I am thinking here. NJ wins in overtime.
