The NHL is taking its proverbial foot off the gas pedal a bit tonight, as there are just four games on the schedule. We’ve still got plenty to talk about in the meantime, so with that in mind let’s take our daily look around the league at some of the key players and stats out there.

James Van Riemsdyk, LW, Toronto Maple Leafs: If the Leafs had been playing like this recently, they wouldn’t have lost three games in a row. They beat a powerful Lightning team 5-2 at Air Canada Centre last night, aided by van Riemsdyk’s two goals on five shots.
Jonathan Bernier also held it down in goal, posting 26 saves on 28 shots. This victory sends Toronto to 10-8-2 on the year.
Meanwhile, the Lightning fall to 13-6-2 and have lost two in a row.

NHL News: Player News and Updates for 11/21/14

Max Pacioretty, LW, Montreal Canadiens: Over in Montreal, the Canadiens retained their top positioning in the NHL with a convincing win over the Blues. Pacioretty, who was celebrating his 26th birthday, scored two goals in the 4-1 win at Bell Centre, with Carey Price logging 31 saves on 32 shots.
The win sends the Canadiens to 15-5-1, best in the NHL with 31 points. They’ve won seven of their last eight games.

Tomas Tatar, LW, Detroit Red Wings: Down 3-2 heading into the third period against the Jets last night, things looked bleak for the Red Wings. The team was able to rally in that last period, however, securing a 4-3 win on the strength of Tatar’s two goals--one being the game-winner. He’s now got a four-game points streak and seven goals in his past 10 games.
Justin Abdelkader also helped out here with a goal and an assist.

Patrick Kane, RW, Chicago Blackhawks: The Blackhawks have begun a tough road trip, but they’ve started out with a solid win. Kane posted his second-straight game-winning goal and added an assist in the 4-3 win over Calgary last night at Scotiabank Saddledome, the first of six games left on the Blackhawks’ current stint away from United Center. This is part of the team’s annual exodus from their home stadium while giving way to Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus for the next week and a half.
Calgary got a goal and an assist from Paul Byron, but couldn’t extend their three-game win streak.
