New York Islanders vs. New Jersey Devils - 11/29/14 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The New Jersey Devils will look to pull even in the win-loss column with a much needed victory on Long Island on Saturday night as they take on the surprising Islanders who are xcertainly playing like Eastern Conference contenders. The Devils have undergone some changes over the last few seasons and are still reeling from losing Ilya Kovalchuk a couple years ago as they have yet to replace the offensive void left by the departing Russian sniper. The Devils come into tonight's game sitting at 9-10-4 on the year which has them in fifth place in the Metropolitan division and while that may not be too appealing from an outsider the Devils know that with the division being so wide open aside from the Penguins and Isles that they are very much in play when it comes to the Eastern Conference playoffs and if they can add a piece during the year they should wind up with one of the eight spot up for grabs. Corey Schneider is slated to get the start as he will go up against Jaroslav Halak.

The new York Islanders have been one of the game's biggest surprises this season as they are playing like Cup contenders through the first quarter of the season and while their core has been playing very well it is some new pieces that have pushed the Isles over the edge. Jaroslav Halak was considered one of the game's best goalies a couple seasons ago and after being jerked around by a few teams he has found a spot in New York and has played like one of the game's best this season holding on to an 11-4 record. The Isles return home here as pretty decent favourites against the Devils – something they haven't been able to lay claim to in a number of years but this Islanders team is very different and with Nick Leddy and Johnny Boychuk joining the blue line the Isles are a legit contender in the East and should be treated as such. New York was shelled last night against the Caps but should get back in te win column here and I think they get the points without conceding any to the Devils.
