The Vancouver Canucks have been one of the best teams in hockey to start the season as they currently sit in first place in the Pacific division and are 16-6-1 on the year leaving them with the fifth highest point total in the league sitting just a single point back of four other teams. The Canucks didn't take long to re-estalbish themselves as a league powerhouse after an off year last year forced a franchise wide house cleaning that saw head coach and general manager leaving town and clearly the move was a smart one as the team is right back in the President's Trophy hunt. They head into Detoirt on Sunday for the lone NHL game on the schedule and it should be a good one as the Red Wings have been playing well and are 13-5-5 on the year which has them in third place in the Atlantic. Ryan Miller will get the call between the pipes as he will go up against Jimmy Howard for the Wings.
The Red Wings return to action on Sunday afternoon looking to take down one of the game's top teams and from their days in the Western Conference the Wings are very familiar with how this Canucks team plays and should give them an edge over other Eastern Conference foes. The Red Wings have always been a tough out on home ice and sit at 8-2-2 at the Joe so far this year which to me is why they are favoured in this spot but on paper this should be a very tough matchup for the Wings as the Canucks are a very deep team that can beat you in a number of ways and if they're going to get the win they'll need a special effort out of Jimmy Howard. Unfortunately, I think Ryan Miller makes the difference here as he has been brilliant all season long and in this one will be playing in front of his friends and family as the Michigan native returns home and I think he puts on a show. I love the Canucks here and getting them at plus money is an outright steal.
