NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Daily Schedule and More
December 1, 2014
With just one game on yesterday’s schedule, the NHL is dialing it up a bit tonight, with five matchups scheduled on the ice in the coming hours. In the meantime, there’s plenty to discuss when it comes to the on-ice action, so let’s check out some of the notable headlines and players out there this morning.
Henrik Zetterberg, LW, Detroit Red Wings: In yesterday’s only NHL game, the Red Wings were able to defend their home ice against the visiting Canucks, thanks to a strong effort from several players. Chief among them was Zetterberg, who logged a pair of assists in the 5-3 win, which was in doubt until an empty net goal from Pavel Datsyuk at the 19:10 mark of the third. Datsyuk logged a pair of goals in the victory.
One interesting aside, the game was under a delay for almost 35 minutes thanks to a power outage caused by a surge that occurred just before the opening faceoff.
Detroit is now 14-5-5 on the season.

The Avalanche’s Semyon Varlamov won’t be starting tonight; he needs a little more time to recover from his groin injury. It’s looking like it’ll take until at least Thursday before he’s back out on the ice.
Taking Varlamov’s place tonight will be Calvin Pickard.
The Bruins’ Kevan Miller was able to return to practice yesterday. He was sidelined with an unspecified ailment. It’s looking like he’ll be good to go for tonight against Anaheim.
The Panthers’ Dave Bolland is traveling with the team, but he won’t be out on the ice tonight.
Bolland has been out since mid-October with a groin injury. It appears his return may be close at hand if all goes well.
Speaking of the Blue Jackets, C Artem Anisimov has been ruled out for the Florida game tonight. He’s suffering from an upper-body injury. His next chance to play would be Thursday, depending on the severity of his ailment.
