The Kings look for just their third road victory of the season on Thursday night when they head into Phoenix to take on the Coyotes and with a win and a Flames loss the Kings can move to within a single point for third place in the Pacific division. Los Angeles has had the luxury of playing a large portion of their schedule so far this year on home ice which has been brilliant for them posting an 11-3-1 mark at the Staples Center but has also spoiled them of sorts as they're just 2-4-4 on the road leaving them with one of the worst records away from home in the league despite the small sample size. Los Angeles has the talent to compete for another Stanley Cup but in order to do so I think they need Slava Voynov back who remains suspended from the team due to ongoing investigations into domestic violence and until a decision has been made the Kings will be without one of the best young blue liners in hockey. Luckily for them they have a ton of depth and they'll need it in this one as they take on Mike Smith and the Arizona Coyotes.
Arizona has a new name sake this season and finally some off ice stability as a new ownership group has agreed to keep the team in Glendale and hopefully for their sake the broadening of the team's title will bring in a larger fan base that will encompass the entirety of the Grand Canyon State. The Coyotes though have been mediocre at best to start the season sitting with a 10-13-3 mark and are 11 points back of the third place Flames in the Pacific division and I don't imagine things will get much easier moving forward. Arizona does have a nice blue line and Mike Smith can steal a game for you in goal but their forwards are something to be questioned and while they looked good against the Oilers you have to take that with a grain of salt as Edmonton can do no right at the moment and are among the worst in hockey. While the Coyotes may surprise I just don't see it and getting the Kings at a reasonable price is the way to go.
