Edmonton Oilers vs. San Jose Sharks - 12/7/14 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The San Jose Sharks are a very streaky team and often find themselves riding waves of momentum in both directions and at the moment they are on the upswing and are coming off a huge win against the Flames in Calgary last night. San Jose has been a staple of playoff hockey over the last decade but they don't have anything to show for their efforts as they have yet to qualify for a Cup finals and haven't sniffed that dream in quite some time but perhaps now with expectations a little lower this could be the season they break through. San Jose has a nice balance up front and a blue line that is very competitive but goaltending remains an issue as Antii Niemi continues to get the majority of the starts but Alex Stalock is waiting in the wings waiting for his chance to become the team's starter and a strong effort here tonight albeit against the Oilers could go a long way in securing more starts for the promising young goaltender.

The Edmonton Oilers are an absolute train wreck and their media session with general manager Craig MacTavish on Thursday looks as though it could have been the beginning of the end of another lost season filled with disappointment for the Oil. Edmonton is in the midst of an 11-game winless streak and while they have played some great games in that span and have earned four points out of it they can't find ways to win and that is starting to get very frustrating for everyone involved. Ben Scrivens will get the call here as he faces off against the team he has his best game ever against as he was brilliant in a 59 save effort against the Sharks in Edmonton last season and while reaching those numbers again is almost out of the question you'd have to think he will be playing with some purpose and confidence in this one. It is very tough to back Edmonton here but I think the coaching staff and the players will respond after Thursday's presser and while I am not confident at all I think the Oilers will get a much needed win here.
