After a busy NHL Saturday, the league is easing up a bit today. We’ve got four matchups on the schedule in the coming hours, starting this afternoon and extending into the evening. Before we get started, let’s check out some of the key players and stats from yesterday’s action.

Christian Ehroff, D, Pittsburgh Penguins: The Penguins and Senators played a pretty tight game yesterday, but Pittsburgh ended up coming out on top. Ehroff netted a late goal to edge out Ottawa 3-2 and completed a 2-1-0 home-stand.
Evgeni Malkin scored the other two goals for the Penguins, one in the first period to get the scoring started and the other late in the second to tie the game up at two goals apiece.

Paul Stastny, C, St. Louis Blues: Goalie Martin Brodeur got his inaugural win as a member of the Blues yesterday, taking care of the Islanders 6-4. Stastny helped out on offense, bagging a pair of goals in the road win. Kevin Shattenkirk (goal; two assists) and T.J. Oshie (goal; assists) also helped out on offense.
Brodeur came on in relief of Jake Allen, who allowed three goals on just a dozen shots. He ended up with 14 saves of his own and now has 689 career victories.

Jimmy Howard, G, Detroit Red Wings: After allowing a pair of goals to the Rangers in the first period last night, Howard tightened the screws and shut New York out the rest of the way on 27 saves all together. The Red Wings posted a 3-2 victory on the strength of three unanswered goals in the second and third periods to give coach Mike Babcock his 500th career win. The team was also pretty impressive at the penalty kill late, stifling a pair of 5-on-3 opportunities for New York.
This victory breaks Detroit’s five-game losing streak to the Rangers.

Braden Holtby, G, Washington Capitals: The Capitals got a solid road win against the Devils last night, with Holtby anchoring the defense. He put up 33 saves on 33 shots in a 4-1 win in Newark, stopping 15 shots in the last 20 minutes of the game.
The Capitals scored four unanswered goals after falling behind 1-0 in the first period. This was their second win in a row, and it brought the team into third place in the Metropolitan.
