TV:

There were just two games in the NHL last night, but today we’ll be getting back to a heavy schedule once again. Let’s check out some of the notable players and storylines across the league this morning as we get set for the upcoming slate of games.

James Reimer, G, Toronto Maple Leafs: If you like low-scoring, defensive battles in your hockey, this was the game for you. Reimer was making his first appearance between the pipes in four weeks or so, and he ended up coming up big against the Red Wings.
Reimer made 42 saves on 43 shots to help the Leafs preserve a 2-1 shootout victory. Mike Santorelli posted the deciding score.
Gustav Nyquist got the scoring going in the second with a goal to give Detroit a 1-0 lead, and then Phil Kessel tied it up in the third with his 15th goal of the season.

Frederik Andersen, G, Anaheim Ducks: Not to be outdone, Andersen also had a pretty big game for the Ducks. He made 21 saves on 22 shots to aid his team to a 2-1 win over the Oilers at Honda Center yesterday. This was Andersen’s 16th consecutive start.
Matt Beleskey posted his team-leading (tie) 14th goal and Ryan Kesler managed his 10th score of the year.
Anaheim now has 43 points, which is best in the league right now. Their season-long record so far is 19-6-5.
As for the Oilers, they’re just 7-17-5 after dropping another close one.

The Predators’ Derek Roy, who is out with an upper-body injury right now, was able to participate in yesterday’s practice. He’s missed the last five games and has a shot at getting into the lineup tonight.

Keith Ballard, defenseman for the Wild, is out indefinitely according to sources close to the team. He’s got a concussion and multiple fractures in his face after taking a hit on Tuesday.
Ballard reportedly won’t need surgery, but I’ll be a few days before the doctors decide what do to with him--the swelling has to go down first. He’ll be out for a while.
