The Calgary Flames were dealt a little dose of reality on Thursday night as their improbable start to the season was put in check against a Sabres team that hasn't had much success this season but is starting to heat up. Calgary clawed their way back into the game several times but ultimately the Sabres drew the final punch and won by a 4-3 final giving the Flames a loss heading into the back end of a double header this time in Pittsburgh against a very good Penguins side. Calgary will turn to Jonas Hiller in this one after Reto Berra got the call last night and he will go up against Marc-Andre Fleury who will look to continue his rebound season in the Pittsburgh crease. The Flames have now lost three games in a row and will face a penguins side that has won 18 games so far this season and including 9 on home ice.
The Penguins sit atop the Metropolitan division and are right in the mix in the President's Trophy as they look to regroup after last year's premature exit from the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Pens are a very well balanced team and while they did lose some key pieces from their core from the last couple seasons they have been able to adjust and are playing just as well as any of those teams ever did and aside from James Neal in Nashville the former Pens haven't made huge impacts in their new digs. Pittsburgh has actually been a better road team than they have at home this season which goes to show just how dangerous they are and that they can win against anybody on any given night including at home here against the suddenly slumping Flames. Pittsburgh should get the better of Calgary here as the Pens have too much firepower to deal with and I think they can score two points in 60 minutes.
