The Detroit Red Wings go on the road to face the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre Saturday.
The Detroit Red Wings begin a road trip with their first stop at the Air Canada Centre to battle the Maple Leafs. The Red Wings ended their home stand on a down note with a 3-2, shootout defeat at the hands of Florida. In what appeared to be an offensive show with each team scoring twice in the first quickly became a defensive battle with the respective defenses and goaltenders pitching a shutout over the final 40 minutes. Vincent Trocheck beat Jimmy Howard in the SO to give the Panthers a hard fought victory. Jonathan Huberdeau and Tomas Fleischmann each scored in the opening frame for Florida with Roberto Luongo brushing aside 29 shots to pick up the win. The Red Wings received goals Riley Sheahan and Gustav Nyquist while Howard's 24 save performance was still a losing effort.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking for back to back victories over the Red Wings when they vist the Air Canada Centre on Saturday night. The Maple Leafs defeated Detroit 2-1 in a shootout on Wednesday night in a defensive struggle. The Red Wings struck first with a Gustav Nyquist tally with just over two minutes remaining in the middle frame. The Leafs evened the contest on Phil Kessel's goal at 5:08 of the third with Mike Santorelli beating Jimmy Howard in round one of the shootout for the only goal in the SO. The Detroit offense might have been sparse but it wasn't for lack of trying as they peppered James Reimer with 42 shots. Howard finished with 18 saves in the loss while the Red Wings are a disappointing 1-5 in shootouts thus far.
The Red Wings are 1-8 in their last 9 vs. Atlantic and are 4-1 in their last 5 road games with the under going 4-1 in Red Wings last 5 Saturday games. The Toronto 2Maple Leafs are 6-1 in their last 7 vs. Atlantic and are 6-1 in their last 7 home games while going 5-1 in their last 6 vs. a team with a winning record. Head to head the under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings. The trends say not many goals will be scored but for now I'm leaning Red Wings unless something comes up between now and game time...
