After a busy day yesterday, the NHL is taking things slowly today with just three matchups on the schedule. While we’re waiting on those pucks to hit the ice, let’s check out some of the top players from this weekend’s action and see what everyone’s talking about this morning.

Scott Laughton, C, Philadelphia Flyers: Yesterday was a red-letter date for the rookie center Scott Laughton. He scored his first career NHL goal against the Hurricanes and also bagged an assist for his first multiple-point game.
Philly took it 5-1 on the strength of solid performances from Laughton, Jakub Voracek and Wayne Simmonds, who each had a goal and an assist on the evening. Sean Couturier and Michael Raffl scored the other goals to send Philly to 11-13-5.

Jonathan Bernier, G, Toronto Maple Leafs: The Maple Leafs are on quite a roll right now. They won their fourth straight game last night against the Red Wings in Toronto, a 4-1 affair at Air Canada Centre. Bernier managed 28 saves on 29 shots.
Daniel Winnik had two assists in the win over a Detroit team that had just lost to the Panthers in a shootout the night before.
The Red Wings have now lost three straight games (0-2-1).

Lubomir Visnovsky, D, NY Islanders: The Islanders entered last night as a cold team against a hot opponent, but they were able to take care of the Blackhawks 3-2 at home. Visnovsky scored in the third, just 51 seconds apart from Kyle Okposo’s goal, to send the Blackhawks home with a loss.
Chicago had just 25 shots on goal here, which was crucial for New York. They had allowed 17 goals through a three-game losing streak.

Mats Zuccarello, RW, New York Rangers: The Rangers were a long way from home last night, and playing in one of the late games. They were able to take that adversity and turn it into a big win, however, coming out 5-1 over the Canucks in Vancouver.
Zuccarello posted a pair of goals in the win and Ryan McDonagh got his first goal fo the season.
The Rangers did most of their damage with man-advantage rushes to the net, posting a three-goal lead in just the first 6:46 of play.
