New York Islanders vs. New Jersey Devils - 12/15/14 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Devils are fading fast in the Metropolitan division standings after going 2-6-2 in their last 10 games and for a team that showed a lot of promise at the start of the year the holes in their roster are finally catching up with them. The Devils are one of the oldest teams in hockey and rely heavily on their older stars for much of their offensive production and the recipe simply isn't working at the moment which could force the team into a full blown rebuild if they can't shake their losing ways in a hurry. New Jersey heads into Long Island sitting 13 points back of the Isles for second place and 15 back of the Penguins for the division lead however, they are just six back of the Capitals for the magic third entry into the post season and that is where they should focus their energy for the time being and the long term future. Corey Schenider will get the call in the crease as he will go up against Jaroslav Halak.

The Islanders have been among the league's best this season sporting a 20-10 record and sitting in second place in the division and with the way they can break out offensively they are a serious threat to the Penguins for the hunt of the Metro crown. New York has a ton of young talent that is beginning to come together and with the additions they made in the offseason including Halak, Johnny Boychuk, and Nick Leddy this team is a much deeper unit and should very well make the playoffs this season. New York is 11-3 at home and the Devils are 8-11-1 on the road which isn't a terrible mark but indicates just how much New Jersey has played away from home but in either case I think the line should favour the Isles as much as it does. New York is simply the better team at the moment and I think they make quick work of New Jersey in a pretty tough spot for the road side.
