We’re coming off a pretty thin day in NHL action, and things won’t get much busier tonight. We’ve got just three games on tap for this evening, but there are at least a couple of good matchups mixed in there. That said, let’s check out a few of the notable players in the news this morning.

Mike Santorelli, C, Toronto Maple Leafs: In yesterday’s only shootout result, the Maple Leafs were able to overcome the defending champion Kings 4-3 at Air Canada Centre.
Santorelli led the way on a goal and an assist, while Cody Franson also had a score and a helper of his own. Joffrey Lupul posted the only goal in the shootout, moving Toronto to 18-9-3 on the year so far.
The loss sends the Kings to 15-10-6, and the team is now suffering a Stanley Cup hangover, losing four of their last five.

Brandon Saad, LW, Chicago Blackhawks: Goals were at a premium last night in the Blackhawks-Flames game at United Center. Saad scored one at 12:57 in the third to give his team a 2-1 victory. Chicago now has 35 third-period goals this year and is 9-4-0 when tied after two.
Jonathan Toews also had a big game here, assisting on both scores. Chicago is now 21-9-1 and bounces back well after a Saturday loss to the Islanders.
Calgary moves to 17-13-2 with the loss, their fifth straight.

Henrik Lundqvist, G, New York Rangers: Lundqvist wasn’t terribly busy in the Oilers-Rangers game last night (neither one was, really) but he made the most of his opportunities. He recorded 16 saves for his fifth shutout of the year in a 2-0 win over Edmonton. It was the second victory of New York’s four-game road trip.
On the other side, Ben Scrivens made 20 saves on 21 shots, but Dan Girardi’s goal in the first was all New York needed.
