TV:

There are a whopping 11 games on the NHL schedule tonight, which will get us back into a rhythm after a couple of slow evenings. While we’re waiting on those pucks to hit the ice, let’s check out some of the notable players everyone’s talking about this morning in our daily wrap-up.

Josh Bailey, LW, New York Islanders: The Islanders were able to log a shootout win over the Devils last night in an east-coast showdown in Uniondale. Bailey scored in the second period of the game and also notched a goal in the shootout (round five) to secure the victory for his team.
Marek Zidlicky and Scott Gomez posted first-period goals for the Devils, but it wasn’t enough. The team falls to 11-15-6 with the loss.
Meanwhile, the Isles move to 21-10-0.

Steve Downie, RW, Pittsburgh Penguins: The Pens were able to post an improbable victory over the Lightning last night, even though they’ve been hit pretty hard by the injury bug. Downie scored and had an assist in the 4-2 victory, while net-minder Marc-Andre Fleury provided 28 saves for his seventh consecutive win. The Penguins are now 20-6-4.
The Lightning come out of this one with some injury concern of their own. Ben Bishop sustained a lower-body injury and had to be replaced by Evgeni Nabokov. We’d imagine he’ll be out for the next game.

Brian Flynn, C, Buffalo Sabres: In last night’s other shootout game, the Sabres were able to outlast the Senators on a 5-4 victory. Flynn managed a goal and an assist in the game, as did Marcus Foligno. That give Buffalo a four-game win streak and 10 victories in their last 13 appearances. They’re 13-16-2 on the year.
Buffalo also has a six-game home win streak, which is their longest since the 2006-07 season. We’ll see if they can keep it going.
