San Jose Sharks vs. Edmonton Oilers - 12/18/14 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Edmonton Oilers are in a complete state of disarray and their 15 losses in 16 game stretch came to a head this week as they fired head coach Dallas Eakins after just a year and a half on the job. The Oilers have been in a rebuilding state since 2007 and despite a number of top end draft picks and a number of coaching changes they can't seem to get over the hump and not only are they losing they are losing in record numbers. Keep in mind that they have played particularly well over the last two weeks and are still earning points but you have to be able to come up big when it matters and earning single points here and there especially when you're in the midst of an ugly losing skid is not going to help. Edmonton will look to stop the bleeding once again at the expense of the Sharks but this time they are in San Jose where it is a lot more difficult to win and as expected they are massive underdogs once again. Ben Scrivens is expected to start and he will go up against Antii Niemi for San Jose.

The Sharks have started to turn a corner after a rough patch in the erly going and now with three straight wins and seven in their last 10 they are in to third place in the Pacific division and can further close the gap with a win here. The Sharks have demonstrated they have some fight and resolve after last season's epic collapse to the LA Kings as they have come back swinging this season and would love nothing more than to get their revenge on the Kings and knock them out of the playoffs or keep them from getting in altogether in what is going to be a very competitive division with plenty of worthy teams. This is a tough call as the only way to get anything done in this spot is taking the Sharks on the puck line but Edmonton played well in Arizona and have the GM behind the bench and while they may not get the win I think If they're going to keep it close it is going to be a low scoring game and Scrivens should be up to the task for the Oil.
