Vancouver Canucks vs. Calgary Flames - 12/20/14 NHL Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Calgary Flames couldn't end their losing ways at home on Friday night as they dropped their seventh straight decision this time to the Dallas Stars and will now look for answers on the road against a very tough Vancouver Canucks team. The Flames were big time overachievers to start the season as they took everybody by surprise and while many expected they would regress I don't think anybody had them dropping seven games in a row with a chance at eight in Vancouver tonight. The Flames are a young team that selected with the fourth overall pick in last year's draft and it was thought that they were going to select in and around the same position this year until their winning ways to begin the season squashed any realistic chance at landing another franchise shaping talent. The Flames have sputtered into fifth place in the Pacific division and while they have a comfortable edge on both the Coyotes and Oilers they are starting to lose ground on the teams that matter one of which being their opponents tonight.

The Canucks have completely turned things around after a nightmare of a season last year with John Tortorella and Mike Gillis calling the shots and they look much like a team ready to get back into the lime light in the Western Conference. The Canucks are a different style of team than we are used to seeing as generally speaking it was the Sedin's and everyone else but this year things have been much more balanced and the team relies on running four lines instead of overloading their top six and as a result they have been able to generate victories and have given newcomer Ryan Miller plenty of breathing room between the pipes. The Canucks have lost three in a row though and are losing their grip in the Pacific division but I think some home cooking against a team struggling even more so will do them well and I think Vancouver does it with some conviction and confidence.
