After tonight, the NHL will be shutting down for three days over Christmas. In the meantime, the league is going out with a bang. There are 11 games on the schedule tonight, so it won’t be hard to find some compelling action out there. Let’s take a look at today’s headlines before we get set for the games.

Pekka Rinne, G, Nashville Predators: In what was shaping up to be a goaltender battle, the Predators ended up chasing Blue Jackets net-minder Sergei Bobrovsky in an eventual 5-1 win. Rinne held up the defense on 30 saves, while Craig Smith (two goals) and Colin Wilson (goal, assist) helped out the offense.
The Predators move to 22-8-2 with the victory, slowing down a Jackets team that came in 8-0-1 in their previous nine.

Alexandre Burrows, RW, Vancouver Canucks: The Canucks’ offense was humming last night against the Coyotes, delivering a much-needed surge in a 7-1 victory. Burrows scored twice, which ended a nine-game scoring drought. Brad Richardson also had a goal and an assist.
Ryan Miller held down the fort for Vancouver, posting 38 saves on 39 shots. Vancouver is now 20-11-2 on the season and will look to build off this big offensive showing.

Ryan Kesler, C, Anaheim Ducks: Now let’s check out the two games decided in OT last night. First was the Ducks-Sharks. Kesler posted the game-winner in that one, nailing a goal at the 0:58 mark of the extra period. Cam Fowler and Richard Rakell also scored for Anaheim.
The Ducks are now 23-8-5 and have broken the 50-point mark. The Sharks, meanwhile, fall to 19-11-5.

Johnny Gaudreau, LW, Calgary Flames: The Flames snapped an eight-game losing streak when Mark Giordano scored in overtime against the Kings last night for a 4-3 victory over the defending champs.
Rookie winger Johnny Gaudreau was the big hero here, notching his first career hat trick. He scored twice with an empty net behind him and helped rally the Flames to a win (Calgary was down 3-1 late in the third).
The Kings move to 17-11-7 on the year, while Calgary is 18-15-3.
