After a light two-game set yesterday, the NHL will be back in full force this evening. There are a whopping 12 games scheduled around the league, so there will be no shortage of hockey action for fans to check out. In the meantime, let’s visit with the notable players and stats from the most recent games.

Brad Boyes, RW, Florida Panthers: Florida was down 4-2 heading into the third period at home yesterday against the Maple Leafs, but they were able to rally in that final frame and get a big win.
Florida put up four goals in the third to secure a 6-4 victory, with Boyes notching the game-winner. Dmitry Kulikov also scored and had an assist.
The Panthers outshot Toronto 13-3 in the first and 15-14 in the second but fell behind due to some poor defense.

Cam Fowler, D, Anaheim Ducks: Yesterday’s only other NHL game didn’t have quite as many goals, but there was a lot of intrigue to go around in this close matchup. Fowler scored the game-winner in overtime, giving the Ducks a 2-1 victory over Vancouver.
The Ducks are now 24-8-6 on the year and 18-0-6 in one-goal games. That’s the best record in the league. Interestingly enough, 15 of the team’s past 17 wins have come by a one-goal margin.

The Leafs’ Jonathan Bernier has an illness that caused him to miss yesterday’s game against the Panthers. No word yet on the severity (or whether it’s the dreaded mumps), but we’ll find out more soon.

The Penguins’ Paul Martin didn’t travel with the team to New Jersey for tonight’s game, so he’ll be out of action again. It sounds like he needs a little bit more practice before he’s ready to hit the ice again.
