The Philadelphia Flyers looked as though they had turned a corner and were on there way back into the race in the Metro division but a two game slide has them sitting in fifth place and a solid eight points back of the Rangers for fourth. Philly has been a tough team to figure out over the last few years as they have always been one piece away or a goaltender away from being a legit contender but this season they haven't really been in the mix at any point. The Flyers were the talk of the league a few years ago but since then they have fallen on hard times despite getting back to the playoffs last season and having a ton of talent to work with including franchise player Claude Giroux. The Flyers will turn to Steve Mason here to get them a victory as he will go up against Semyon Varlamov who returns to action after another stint on the shelf.
The Avalanche have dropped back to back games after a huge win over the St. Louis Blues earlier in the week and now sit in dead last in the division with just 34 points in 36 games. Colorado was expected to be in the mix once again this season after taking the division crown last year in spectacular fashion but a slow start has them a ways out of a playoff spot and with the season's half way mark fast approaching the Avs need to find a way to sort things out in a hurry. Semyon Varlamov should give the team a little more confidence playing in front of him but even last year's Vezina nominee hasn't looked the same and as he goes his team does. While I do think Colorado is the better side here they get a Flyers team that has been playing much better of late and has had a more prolific offense while their defensive resumes have been identical thus far. Take the price and grab the Flyers.
