The New York Islanders have been one of the league's best and most consistent teams this season and with a victory over Calgary on Friday night they can take over sole possession of first place in the Metro division – something very few thought they'd be able to do this season. The isles have been a team on the rise over the last few years and this past offseason they made some great moves by acquiring Nick Leddy and Johnny Boychuk and the emergence of Brock Nelson to join John Tavares and Kyle Okposo has this team cleaning house. The Isles have 51 points in 37 games so far this season and have a 6-3-1 mark in their last 10 overall but catch a Flames team who is back in the fold thanks to a four game winning streak. Jaroslav Halak is expected to get the call between the pipes as he will go up against Jonas Hiller for the Flames.
The Flames have been on a roller coaster over the last month or so as they endured a very successful winning streak, and equally devastating losing skid, and are now on the mend again as they have won four in a row and can move into second place in the Pacific with a victory against the Isles. Calgary has been very impressive this season and has taken the league by storm even more so than tonight's opponent who many had as a playoff team but very few even thought Calgary would finish with a winning record yet alone challenge for a playoff spot. Calgary's defense and youth has been their key to success as both Mark Giordano and TJ Brodie are enjoying career seasons and Johnny Gaudreau is cementing himself as a Calder contender and overall the Flames have been a very nice team to watch. New York is a great team that will be a force in the playoffs and while they have been tough to beat I think Calgary is getting a little disrespected here as the home dog and I think we should jump on it.
